Honey in Maltese History

Apiaries of Punic origin, topographic names of our northern settlements, the writings of various Arabic geographers, late medieval documents, and Grand Tour travellers’ accounts, are just few indicators pointing towards Malta’s immemorial association to honey – the golden-amber coloured nectar of the Gods and nature’s natural sweetener.
